 The Red Ball

There came a day

when the old dog

just couldn't go

any further. He laid

   down his head...

and by the look

in his eyes you knew

he was saying it's time.

He left behind many

   wonderful memories...

and a lot of tears

flowed that day.

The place he liked

to lay was in front

of the window, and still

today that is where

   his red ball lays...

we just never move it

or put it away.

In his younger years

he would retrieve

that ball and he always

kept it by his side.

But as he grew older

he would just raise

his head every now

and then to see

   if it was still there...

kind of like we

do now, I suppose.

We will never forget him

...even with time,

and that red ball

sitting there just

   seems to be saying...

 this place was mine.
